Native American Art Exhibition at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
When we were asked to build showcases for the Native American Art Exhibition at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, we jumped at the chance to work on a project focused on valued engineering, aesthetic design and quality fixtures.
Working closely with VMFA and The 1717 Design Group, we created a series of showcases that not only provided practical and secure units to display priceless art, but were able to give the art focal point lighting and cabinetry that blended harmoniously with the graceful presence of the exhibit artifacts and exhibit area.
Please visit our retail and specialty gallery page for pictures of this wonderful exhibition. For information on our services and capabilities, please visit our contact us page.

American Eagle Opens Flagship Store in Times Square, NY
When American Eagle began planning a new flagship store for its Times Square location, Showbest Fixture was there to help bring the concept to reality. The store design is completely new, featuring an eclectic combination of materials, from wood to brushed metal to polished concrete, as well as oversized subway tiles and custom lighting throughout. The rooms are more delineated, creating an intimate experience that optimally showcases the product and brand. Elements such as 15-foot ceilings and a 13-foot video wall add dramatic impact. The 25,000 sq ft store recently opened in Manhattan, NY and intends to offer its customers “a retail experience unlike anything they’ve experienced before--even by Times Square standards.”
To help establish the new look, the retailer required an experienced fixture manufacturer with a solid understanding of their customer base and vision. “Showbest was uniquely qualified to support their needs,” said Jim Schubert, President, “Adaptability to new ideas, concepts and materials is an inherent part of what we do here at Showbest."

Blackstone Facility Reduces Lighting Energy Consumption by Over 60%
In our continuing effort to support corporate stewardship and sustainability, Showbest fixture has added to its initiatives by installing energy efficient lighting in its Blackstone plant.
The savings on energy consumption are on excess of 60% per annum, and feature intelligent light switches which separate areas of little traffic volume to reduce unnecessary consumption.
In replacing the old lighting system, Engineering Manager Scott Schubert said, “In addition to the financial savings, the facility now has an exceptional lighting level which draws 60% less power from the main grid.”
This is not the first sustainable initiative undertaken at the Blackstone plant since its opening. Last year a new computer controlled HVAC system to reduce energy costs by use of automatic set back of heating and cooling was installed, as well as computer based automated processes which resulted in reduced wood waste through optimized woodcutting.

Proving that the company’s commitment to providing sustainable fixtures to our customers wasn’t just a product based service, Showbest Fixture Corp has taken the initiative to become the first store fixture manufacturer in VA with a qualified LEED AP on staff.
“The benefits to our customers are tremendous,” said Company President Jim Schubert. “Not only can our customers rely on our products being compliant but they have the additional peace of mind knowing their project is being overseen by a professional in the field of LEED.”
“At Showbest,” he continued, “it’s not just about selling a fixture, it’s about relationships too, and we believe that having a LEED AP on staff, available to our customers as a partner in their projects reinforces the values we believe in.”
Elizabeth Hamlett, LEED AP for Showbest added, “It’s important our customers make informed choices about the materials they use on their projects. It is our job to understand the customers’ vision and translate that into a design using materials that support the project they are working on.”

GOVERNOR KAINE ANNOUNCES 104 NEW JOBS FOR BLACKSTONE
Showbest Fixture Corporation cited low business costs, location as key factors -
RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Showbest Fixture Corporation, which manufactures and installs fixtures for retail stores nationwide, will invest more than $2.5 million to locate a facility in Nottoway County. The Richmond-based company will create 104 jobs that range from supervisory positions to machine operators. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina and Pennsylvania for the project.
“Showbest Fixture Corporation relocated its operations to Virginia in 1991 to reduce its manufacturing costs and has already grown substantially at its Richmond location,” Governor Kaine said. “We are thrilled that our low-cost environment has boosted the company’s success in the Commonwealth, leading to this third expansion that will benefit Nottoway County.”
Founded in 1969 in New Jersey, Showbest has manufactured and installed fixtures for thousands of retail stores from coast to coast. The company serves regional and national specialty store chains and independent retailers, large and small. Showbest also offers proprietary lines of fixtures for retailers across the country.
“Even though North Carolina had strong incentives, it was the response, cooperation and support I received that confirmed the expansion in Virginia was the best choice,” said Jim Schubert, President of Showbest Fixture Corporation. “I was particularly impressed with how the various agencies collaborated to identify the financial incentives and business assistance to help Showbest meet its goals. Special thanks to Nottoway County, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Tobacco Commission and the Virginia Department of Business Assistance for making this happen. Your continued strong work will keep Virginia the number one state for business.”
“Much has been written about the loss of manufacturing jobs to foreign competition,” Schubert added. “This project is an example of how businesses and the Commonwealth working together will assure manufacturing jobs still exist in Virginia.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Nottoway County to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Kaine approved $100,000 from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Nottoway County with the project. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission invested $200,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds to support the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide training assistance through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
“Nottoway County is extremely pleased to have Showbest Fixtures Corporation choose our community for their newest expansion. The selection of the Blackstone site will not only produce great benefits for our immediate area, but regionally as well, particularly Southside,” stated Joe Morrissette, Chairman of the Nottoway County Economic Development Committee.
